Like their predecessors, many contemporary artists organize their own journeys or join government-sponsored expeditions. Although they often use new media and art-making strategies, many continue to interpret the polar regions in the ways pioneered by early artists. Fascinated by historical expeditions, artists sometimes trace the routes of these voyages or shatter the myths surrounding their legacy.
